Morzine for beginners

Morzine is an excellent resort for beginners, and a great place to start with ski lessons in Morzine.

The ski area lets you build up gradually, from flat sections and gentle slopes to easy lifts, so you can progress at your own pace.

Getting started at Le Pleney

When you head up the Le Pleney lift, you arrive at a flat section where you can shuffle along to a travelator, which takes you up the slope behind the Nabor restaurant. At the top you arrive at another flat section, the perfect place to begin your first lesson.

Your first lesson

Here, with your instructor, you can start your ski lesson by getting used to the equipment and moving around on the flat.

There is no rush, and you won't go near a slope until you feel ready.

You then progress to the next lift, a magic carpet (or travelator, or ski escalator, whatever you like to call it), which gives you access to the green runs and beginner areas.

Green runs and your first blue

The progression on the Morzine side is excellent.

Once you are confident on the green runs, a gentle blue takes you to the Belvédère chairlift.

From the top there is a great flat section, ideal for building confidence during your Morzine ski lesson.

You can follow the flat back to the green runs or the top of the Le Pleney lift, so you can stop and repeat whenever you like.

Building confidence on the blues

If you feel ready for more, you can turn right onto a slightly steeper blue run through the Penguin Border, which is fun for everyone, not just kids.

At the bottom, another chairlift, the Nabor, conveniently takes you back to the beginner areas and the top of the Le Pleney lift, so it is easy to go round again.

Skiing back into Morzine

This progression continues as your skills build with your instructor, and you could eventually ski piste B, a blue run, all the way back into Morzine town.

It is a great goal to work towards, and a real sense of achievement when you get there.

What to wear and bring

You don't need much to get started. Wear warm, waterproof layers, gloves and a helmet, and bring goggles or sunglasses, sun cream and lip balm, as the sun at altitude is strong.

Skis, boots and poles can be hired in resort.
